Coffee in Yakima

Yakima

Naches and Tieton

• Basalt Roasters, Naches: a small batch roastery inside Cot's Peak Coffee on E Second Street, open by appointment.
• El Jefe Coffee, Tieton: roasts in a former filling station on Maple Street and opens for visits and pickup on Friday and Saturday mornings.

Yakima's coffee story

Crafted is the one with a founding date on record. Kelly and Marissa started roasting in 2016 to supply their kids' local coffee shop, and other independent shops soon asked for the coffee too. Wholesale buyers can now commission a private blend that the client company owns.

MAK Daddy's name comes from the first initials of the founder's three daughters. It buys green coffee in season from small single-farm and community lots, and its Bourbon Infused coffee rests arabica beans with bourbon for 21 days.

Basalt likens coffee farms to Yakima growers who depend on each year's crop, and its retail bags sit at fruit stands such as Johnson Orchards and the Washington Fruit Place at Barrett Orchards. Single Hill Brewing and McIlrath Family Farms carry it too.

Scott at El Jefe spent three decades in aerospace work in Denver, and before that worked on aircraft in the Air Force and as a rescue boatman in the Coast Guard. He left Denver in 2021, guided rivers in Moab, then set up in Tieton after driving through it. He cups every new roast before it is sold, and NorthTown Coffeehouse in Tieton pours his coffee.
