Their story
The company started in 1993 on the Gonzaga University campus, when few small-batch roasters existed in the U.S. It roasts on German machines and says it charges less than many specialty roasters. Founder Thomas Hammer is still CEO and owner. During each roast the team pulls small samples and checks them by smell and taste, and visitors can ask the founder for a tour of the headquarters.
Wholesale customers include college and university coffee shops, which can get private label programs, and the company works with Aramark to place its coffee in offices. The team page says its training director has spent 20 years teaching more than 1,000 baristas, and a corporate trainer runs the specialty coffee program.
What they roast
House blends include Signature Blend and Ol' Crimson Legendary Brew. Single origins on the list when we checked: Guatemala Adiesto Organic, Nicaragua Dipilto and Colombia Ocamonte Organic.
