Indaba Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Spokane, founded in 2009. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Indaba was started in the fall of 2009 by Bobby Enslow, a Washington State University MBA graduate, with a first cafe on West Broadway and a startup budget of about $10,000. A trip to South Africa shaped the idea. Enslow moved to Spokane's West Central neighborhood in 2008 wanting to build a business around community and hospitality, summed up in the motto Love People, Love Coffee. At first the cafe served coffee from guest roasters while Enslow roasted small batches in his family kitchen. Indaba began roasting its own specialty coffee in house in 2014, which gave it control over sourcing and roast profiles.
It grew to a downtown cafe on Riverside Avenue and a Kendall Yards cafe on Summit Parkway, then opened its flagship cafe and roastery on North Monroe Street in 2024. Indaba lists competition medals from the Golden Bean North America and Golden Bean World Series roasting competitions, including two bronze medals in 2024. It received a Greater Spokane Agora community service award in 2016.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include Lilac City Blend, High Drive Blend, Bowl and Pitcher Blend, Big Foot Blend, Mile 7 Blend, Sasquatch Trail Blend and French Roast Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Washed, Ethiopia Natural, Kenya, Rwanda Sholi, Colombia Thermal Shock, Guatemala Ella, Honduras, Sumatra and Mexico Fair Trade Organic. High Drive and Bowl and Pitcher are tagged as espresso blends. Decaf Water Process, organic and Fair Trade, plus a half caf blend. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-27.
