Terrain Coffee Project is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Vancouver, founded in 2018. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Marty Lopes started the business as a wholesale roaster before opening a cafe in downtown Vancouver, according to a 2021 trade press report. That report says roasting takes place on a 10 kilo Mill City machine in the Salmon Creek area of north Vancouver. Before Terrain, Lopes started Roseline Coffee in Portland in 2013, later leaving that company and moving north across the Columbia River.
Terrain launched in 2018 and, when COVID hit, tested retail with a walk-up window at the roastery and local delivery, which led it to speed up a five-year plan for a storefront. The first cafe opened in 2021 in a late 1800s building on West 6th Street that kept its original bank vault and shared a courtyard with Kindred Homestead Supply.

House blends include Contour Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Mexico Pablo Ramirez, Colombia Finca Samaria Honey, Ethiopia Bochessa Natural, Mexico Ohuapan and Ethiopia Aricha. Decaf: Colombia E.A. Decaf Palo Rosa. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.
