Compass Coffee Roasting is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Vancouver, founded in 2007. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The company has served Vancouver since 2007 and frames its purpose around building community. Its shop names farmers on single origin lots, including a featured grower from Ratnagiri Estate in India. Delirium, its flagship, was built in 2007 from coffees bought for that blend alone, and it is poured as the house espresso in the company's cafes.
Most of its coffees sit on the lighter side, but the Handlebar Dark Blend follows an older European style and always includes monsooned Malabar coffee from India. Its wholesale side works with cafes, diners and churches as well as home baristas, offering tiered pricing, training and technical help.
What they roast
House blends include Delirium Blend, Handlebar Dark Blend, King Tide, Summer Camp and Skinny Dip. Single origins on the list when we checked: Assefa Dukamo, Daye Bensa, Hafi, Francisco Morales, La Esperanza, Sebastiana Ramirez Lopez, Ratnagiri Estate, Ashok Patre and Turihamwe.
