Their story

Coffee has been roasted under the Sunrise name in Port Townsend since 1985; Sue Ohlson became the owner in 1997 and still roasts the blends herself. Roasting is done on a Loring SmartRoaster, and most coffee is roasted to order on business days. Green coffee is picked with help from importers and outside grading groups, and every new lot is cupped when it reaches the roastery.

All beans are sold whole in full one-pound bags, and staff grind them only when a customer asks in the order notes. Roast names lean on local and nautical themes, from Heavy Haul Out, Western Flyer and Boiler Room Espresso to the Port Townsend Blend and Salal Blend.

Roast levels run Deep Dive Dark Roast and Max's French Roast. House blends include Port Townsend Blend, Bypass Blend, Sunny Farms Blend, Northwest Passage, Mermaid Roast, Puget Hound Roast, Crack O'Dawn and STARSTRUCK. The CoffeeHouse opens 6:30am to 3:30pm on weekdays and 7:30am to 2pm on Saturdays, and is closed Sundays.
