Roast House Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Spokane, founded in 2010. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Deborah Di Bernardo and Jim Haynes founded the organic roaster. Allison and Aaron are listed as current owners. The company says its coffees have won Golden Bean and Good Food awards, starting with a Guatemala Batzchocola in 2014. Deborah Di Bernardo founded the company in 2010 because she felt the coffee trade put profit ahead of the planet and the people who grow the crop.
In a company interview she says she earlier helped build a law practice across the state, then left that work to return to food and people. Since 2010 it has bought only from certified organic and Rainforest Alliance producers, working through three importers to return to the same farms each year, such as Aquiares in Costa Rica. The roaster supports World Coffee Research, a group that links growers and scientists in 21 countries to protect the future supply of specialty coffee.

House blends include Ride The Edge. Single origins on the list when we checked: Peru Don Celso, Peru Coya Women-Produced, Peru Paric Community Lot, Rwanda Dukundekawa, Ethiopia Halo Beriti, Nicaragua Corrales, Costa Rica Esperanza, Costa Rica Aquiares Peaberry, Colombia La Pradera and Brazil Daterra Sweet Blue. For more than a decade it has given free coffee to volunteers of The Lands Council, including at Reforest Spokane Day, when over 250 people planted native trees and shrubs. Its Ride The Edge blend honors Dave Moffit, an early figure in Spokane mountain biking, and the company says it has poured 10,000 free cups at events such as SpokeFest.
