Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Company is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Sequim, founded in 2009. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Don sold a 1932 Ford coupe to buy a fire-damaged Ambex roaster in San Diego, then rebuilt it in Sequim and began roasting in a side street warehouse. Roasting started in 2009, and the downtown Sequim cafe followed in 2012 along with a bigger roaster the family designed and built. Roasting now happens daily at a newer facility on Gold Dust Lane, a few miles north of downtown, on a custom roaster the family built by hand.
Online orders placed by 3pm Pacific Monday through Thursday ship the same day.
What they roast
House blends include Day Trip, Earlybird, Freewheel, Dungeness Dark, Sunchaser and Downshift. Single origins on the list when we checked: Costa Rica, Guatemala and Sumatra. Espresso: Sunchaser. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

Why buying from Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Company matters here
Farmers markets and Friday morning tastings built its first following. Local watercolor artist Todd Fischer painted the art on its labels. Its coffee is sold in restaurants, cafes and markets across the north Olympic Peninsula and around Puget Sound, and staff deliver and stock shelves for clients each week. Over the years the Sequim cafe became a regular venue for cultural events as well as food and coffee.
Every bag bought from a Sequim roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Washington, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
