Mela Coffee Roasting Co. is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Wenatchee. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The Wenatchee micro-roaster has run an espresso cafe downtown since 2007 and roasts only specialty-grade coffee. Besides retail bags, it trains baristas, designs cafes and services equipment for wholesale clients. Roasting and research now happen at a newer facility on Orondo Avenue, where the team may test a coffee fifty different ways before settling on a profile.
The company describes its home as the Wenatchee Valley at the foot of the Cascades on the Columbia River, and it roasts only coffees scoring above 80 on the specialty scale. Each year the roasting team puts together a Holiday Blend; the 2022 version combined specialty Costa Rica and Sumatra coffees.
What they roast
House blends include Mission Ridge Blend, Sage Hills Blend, Saddlerock Blend, Squilchuck Blend, Cold Brew Blend and French Roast. Single origins on the list when we checked: Columbia River Roast, Ethiopia Guji Kercha, Honduras COCAFCAL Las Capucas, Sumatra Mandheling and Costa Rica Tarrazu. The downtown cafe hangs a new show by local artists each month, from working professionals to first-timers, often booked a year out. It roasts the signature blend for Mission Ridge, which serves it to guests on the hill.
