Blue Star Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Twisp. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The Twisp company supplies cafes in the Methow Valley and in Seattle, and it also sells retail bags and subscriptions. Guests at the coffee bar can look across the whole production floor while green coffee is roasted. The owners bring more than 25 years in specialty coffee, and the company says Roast Magazine named it among North America's top three micro roasters in 2017 and that it won a best espresso title at Seattle Coffee Fest in 2012.
Wholesale accounts get barista training, technical and equipment support, and machines at roaster pricing, with coffees drawn from organic, fairly traded and traditionally grown lots. Its first Rwandan Roaster's Choice came from the Burera region, grown by more than 850 small farmers, and the roaster wrote about the country's rebuilt coffee sector.

House blends include HWY 20 House Blend, Espresso Blend and Morning Roast. Single origins on the list when we checked: Kenya AA and French Sumatra. Espresso: Espresso Blend. Decaf: Supernova Decaf. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

The coffee bar sits inside the roasting plant and is open Monday through Saturday.

Why buying from Blue Star Coffee Roasters matters here
Its house blend takes its name from Highway 20, the road that runs through the Methow Valley. The Twisp coffee bar uses organic milk, serves pastries baked nearby and sells home brewing gear, and its staff answer questions about making coffee at home. Accounts quoted on its site include the Mazama Store up the valley and the Brimmer and Heeltap restaurant in Seattle.
Every bag bought from a Twisp roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Washington, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
