Bellingham Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Bellingham, founded in 2006. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Fernando and Emma Torres came to Bellingham from Colombia in January 2000 and started the roastery in 2006. The Torres family has built relationships with farmers and importers since 2006 and runs the business as a small, family-owned micro-roaster. Coffees are roasted when ordered and are packed and delivered within two business days, and wholesale partners get equipment and training for both espresso and drip.
Its single origin shelf includes several coffees from Colombia, the founders' home country, such as Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Montserrate and Titiribi, next to Ethiopian and Honduran lots. The Cafe de Abuela blend is described with dark chocolate and cinnamon notes, and the shop likens it to a grandmother's hug.
What they roast
House blends include Fairhaven Blend, Viking Blend and New Orleans Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Peru, Honduras Finca Magdalena, Colombia Titiribi, Colombia Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Ethiopia Harrar, Colombia Montserrate and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe. Where to drink it
The Hammer Drive roastery is open weekdays from 8am to 4pm, and the company also sells at the Bellingham Farmers Market on Saturdays.
