Thruline Coffee Co. is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Kirkland, founded in 2008. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Two friends, Adam Olsen and Kent Beidel, started the company in 2008 under the name Rococo Coffee Roasting. The pair grew up together and set out to give Kirkland a third place, the idea from Ray Oldenburg's 1991 book The Great Good Place of a spot between home and work where neighbors meet. What began as one cafe, Caffe Rococo, grew into a regional roaster that supplies wholesale and retail accounts around the Pacific Northwest and farther away.
In 2019 the business took the name Thruline Coffee Co. and a new visual identity, while the owners and staff stayed the same. Green coffee is bought through local importers, and the company says it looks for ethically sourced specialty lots. Every bag is roasted only once it has been ordered, then packed by hand by the staff.
What they roast
Roast levels run French Roast Blend. House blends include Java Blend, Breakfast Blend and Cold Brew Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Costa Rica Tarrazu, Guatemala Huehuetenango and Brazil Minas Gerais. Espresso: Espresso Blend. Decaf: Swiss Water Process Decaffeinated.
