Samayra Coffee Co. is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Olympia. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Owners Ken and Jalee Rice first talked about opening a coffee shop during a three week trip to Europe in 2014, and went ahead with it in 2020 despite the pandemic. Jalee spent close to twenty years at Nordstrom, where an early job in its restaurant division introduced her to espresso, and later worked for MAC Cosmetics. Ken grew up in the Snoqualmie Valley, worked in residential real estate and at Nordstrom, and in 2009 helped start a nonprofit that ran food and school supply drives.
The West Olympia shop roasts small batches in house and serves breakfast, chai, matcha and loose-leaf tea next to its coffee. Food is made fresh rather than packaged, with breakfast sandwiches, Tex-Mex style burritos and pastries baked daily, and the drink list includes nitro cold brew. Its monthly coffee subscription is built around a blend called Shuksan, also sold in 5 lb bags.
What they roast
House blends include Shuksan. Single origins on the list when we checked: Kenya Rungeto Karimikui AB Microlot, Incahuasi (CACVI), Guatemala and Tanzania. A decaf is on the list. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.
