Mukilteo Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Langley. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Gary and Beth Smith started the company in the early 1980s; she had sold him green coffee before they married. It slow-roasts on vintage Probat machines, and Lake and Leo, the couple's two sons, were raised around the roastery. Gary Smith died in 2023. Beth, who buys the green coffee and adjusts the blend recipes, now runs the business with the next generation of the family.
Some of the farming families it buys from have worked with the Smiths since 1979, and the sons traveled with their parents to farms and coffee competitions. The company says it buys directly from its growers and that its coffees are grown without chemicals or pesticides. Over the decades several former employees have left to open roasteries of their own, the family notes.
What they roast
House blends include Coffee at Dawn, Counterbalance, Beth & Gary Blend, Salish, Northwest, PNW, Happy Hippie, Breakfast, Rosalie's, Anthony's and Jr. Cadillac Coffee. Single origins on the list when we checked: Jamaica Blue Mountain, Kenya AA Mukarimu, Sumatra Mandheling DP, Guatemala Finca Rio Colorado and Costa Rica Santa Elena Estate. Decaf: Italian Decaf and Mukilteo Decaf, both Swiss Water. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

Why buying from Mukilteo Coffee Roasters matters here
The roastery sits deep in the woods on Whidbey Island, a few minutes from Clinton and Langley. Regional names run through the lineup, including Salish, Bainbridge, Kayak and a PNW blend that used to be called Chetzemoka.
Every bag bought from a Langley roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Washington, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
