Their story
The company says it has roasted in Seattle for close to three decades, working only with 100% arabica coffees. Organic loose-leaf teas sit next to the coffee in its catalog, and both can be bought on subscription. According to an archived early version of its site, Kalani Organica began in spring 1992 with a few bags of organic coffee, aiming to offer an ecologically sound alternative.
That early site said it bought from cooperatives and small independent farms using shade-grown and organic methods, and gave 1% to chosen causes as a One World Tax. The same page described roasting on a gas-fired drum machine in a fast, hot style, with coffee roasted, bagged and shipped on the same day.

Roast levels run Italian Roast and French Roast. House blends include Kalani Blend, Aloha Blend, Oceania Blend, Mesoamerica Blend, Savannah Blend and Roma Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Peru, Ethiopia, Sumatra and Colombia. Espresso: Espresso Blend Organic. Decaf: Decaf Organic Coffee. Current contact details list a Seattle address on Aurora Avenue North, with phone and text lines for questions. Its organic tea list includes a decaf English breakfast from the Putharjhora garden in Darjeeling, decaffeinated with carbon dioxide. Bags come in 12 ounce and 5 pound sizes, ground to order for anything from drip and cone filters to French press, espresso or Turkish brewing.
