JJ Romer Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Whidbey Island. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Owner Patty named the business for her grandfather Harry Romer, recalling Saturday coffee with him, her mother and her aunt. She began with a small home roaster and spent years trying beans from many countries before turning the hobby into a business. She roasts only single origins in small batches at a home roastery on Whidbey Island.
Small batches let her watch, smell and listen to each roast closely, and she says she buys only from farms with sustainable practices and fair conditions for workers. The current menu runs to about ten coffees, among them Kenya AB Lenana, a honey processed Costa Rica Tarrazu, organic lots from Bali, Peru and Ethiopia, and a Colombian decaf.
