Camano Island Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Camano Island. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
All of its coffees are certified organic and shade grown, and it says it pays farmers above Fair Trade rates, at times up to three times. From each Coffee Lover's Box shipment, 2% goes to its nonprofit partners, Agros and Food 4 Farmers. Agros, one of its nonprofit partners, helps farmers become landowners and also runs education and water treatment programs.
Orders are roasted and shipped within 48 hours by USPS, and most of Washington, Oregon and Idaho gets them in about one business day. Coffee Lover's Club members mix and match from more than 20 organic coffees in shipments of 2 to 4 pounds, every 2 to 10 weeks. A wholesale program offers its organic coffee to small businesses, and the page quotes an espresso stand owner on serving it.
What they roast
Roast levels run Light, Medium and Dark. Single origins on the list when we checked: Papua New Guinea (medium and dark), Honduras (dark), Mexico (medium, coffee of the month) and Peru (organic light roast). Espresso: Varietal Supremo Espresso. Decaf: Camano Island Signature SWP Decaf and Halfcaff; Varietal Supremo Espresso SWP Decaf.
