Avole Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Seattle. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Cafe Avole began as a small roasting project in South Seattle, drawing on Ethiopian coffee traditions. The company calls itself Black-owned and focuses on single-origin Ethiopian coffee, roasted in Seattle and shipped nationwide. Founder Solomon Dubie took the name from the Ethiopian coffee ceremony, where avole is the first and strongest of three rounds poured for guests.
The site notes that both arabica coffee and the founder come from Ethiopia, and every coffee it sells is Ethiopian. After starting in the Central District, it opened a second cafe, Avole on the Ave, in the University District on October 10, 2025, with a night of live music and DJs.
