Caffè Umbria is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Seattle. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Third-generation roaster Emanuele Bizzarri founded the company, carrying on a family coffee tradition that began in Perugia, Italy. The focus is on Italian-style espresso blends, and its cafes are modeled on Italian coffee bars. The Pioneer Square flagship occupies the spot where the Bizzarri family first set up its roastery in 1986.
The Olive Way space was once a Torrefazione Italia cafe opened by Umberto Bizzarri in the 1980s, then a client shop run by family friend Mario Gelmini. Besides Seattle, it runs cafes in Portland, Chicago and Miami Beach, and its Armitage Avenue location in Chicago combines a cafe, a roastery and a coffee lab.
What they roast
House blends include Arco Etrusco, Bizzarri, Grifo, Gusto Crema, Leone, Naturale and Terra Sana. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Gedeb Reku Habtamu (Cupping Room Collection). Decaf: Buona Sera and Mezzanotte decaf blends. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

Macrina Bakery is a featured wholesale partner and pours its coffee in the bakery's cafes. For hotels, cafes and offices it offers barista training, private-label coffee and a ready-to-drink line of cold brew concentrate, cans and an Espresso Spritz.
