Caffe Ladro is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Seattle, founded in 1994. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.

Their story

The first cafe opened on Upper Queen Anne in 1994, which is where the nickname "the Coffee Thief" started. In 2011 the company launched Ladro Roasting to roast its own coffee for its cafes and wholesale partners. From one cafe and bakery it has grown to about 15 locations in Seattle and nearby suburbs.

Its green coffee comes through longtime ties with importers, farmers and mills, and in-house roasting and production teams handle the rest. On July 1, 2025 it began a Coffee for Good series that pairs the cafes with a different nonprofit every couple of months.

What they roast

House blends include Ladro Blend, Queen Anne, Diablo and Fremont. Single origins on the list when we checked: Costa Rica Hacienda Sonora Sarchimor and Tanzania Idiwili Peaberry. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.
