Their story
The family-owned roaster has worked out of the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle and has sold craft-roasted coffee since 2001. Its coffees are seasonal and roasted to order, and it also offers sourcing, training and support to wholesale clients. John and Maine Hofius left software analyst jobs in April 2001 to start the roastery.
Maine first planned a cafe, but a meeting with La Marzocco USA chief Kent Bakke steered the couple toward roasting instead. The company says it was the first roaster to print roast dates on its bags and was early to put craft coffee on grocery shelves.
