Scott Brothers Coffee Company is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Curlew, founded in 1980. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Brothers Rich and Dave Scott moved to Ferry County in 1977 and have roasted arabica coffee there since 1980. With no good local source, they built a homemade roaster from an industrial hot air gun, with advice from a Spokane roaster named Tom. Satya Scott has come back to the family business as its new roastmaster, and the roastery now runs on solar power.
Before moving north, the brothers lived in Northern California in the 1960s and 1970s and drank their coffee in the coffee houses of Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco. The business took shape after they bought two bags of green coffee, about 270 pounds, and built a 3 pound hot air roaster; sales to family, neighbors and friends followed. All of its roasting equipment has been designed and built in house, and the newest machine roasts small batches faster and at lower temperatures.
Dave has retired but still makes Dave's Blend, while Bev packs and delivers orders and makes candies to go with the coffee.
What they roast
House blends include Dave's Blend and Rich's Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Burundi Muramvya, Bali Kintamani, Brazil Poco Fundo, Colombia Tolima, Costa Rica La Amistad, El Salvador Cerro Las Ranas, Guatemala Asobagri and Honduras Marcala. Espresso: 78 Espresso Blend. Decaf: Ethiopia Royal Select Decaf; Honduras Royal Select Water Decaf. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.
