Fidalgo Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Burlington, founded in 1992. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Fidalgo has roasted specialty grade coffee since 1992. It began as a small coffee house and grew into a full roasting operation based in Burlington, in Skagit County. Its coffee is poured at coffee houses and espresso stands around Puget Sound and across the country, and it ships internationally. The company lists its values as honesty, kindness, quality and service, and says it aims to grow with a triple bottom line.
Fidalgo partners with Tierra Nueva, a nonprofit that works in Central America and in Skagit County. Tierra Nueva runs Finca Alta Mira, a coffee farm in Honduras, and Fidalgo buys its entire harvest of roughly 8,000 to 10,000 pounds a year. Through its Underground Coffee brand, Fidalgo hires people leaving the legal system to roast and pack coffee, offering a first step back into work. Underground Coffee is the flagship of the Underground Employer Network, which encourages Northwest Washington employers to hire people released from prison. Its coffees are certified Kosher Parve under the Va'ad HaRabanim of Greater Seattle.

Roast levels run light, medium-light, medium-dark and dark. House blends include Organic Breakfast, Organic Centro, Organic Koma Kulshan, Fidalgo Gold, Daybreak Blend, Sunset Blend, Seacoast Blend, Organic French, Organic Italian and Organic Underground Coffee. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia. Organic Espresso and Islands Espresso. Organic Decaf and Decaf Horizon.
