Dorothea Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Mount Vernon. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The micro-roastery works out of Mount Vernon and sells its coffee online, by subscription and through cafes, restaurants and markets. Its name comes from the city of Dorothea in Italo Calvino's book Invisible Cities. Its preferred way to buy is through a trusted producer group and a trusted importer, which it says cuts its own travel while keeping deals stable and fair.
It commits to lots early, pays on time and does not haggle over price; regular importers include Red Fox Coffee Merchants, Shared Source, Kalsada and Coffee Shrub.
What they roast
House blends include House, House Dark and Espresso. Single origins on the list when we checked: Banko Taratu (Ethiopia Gedeb), Finca Rosita Catuai (Bolivia Caranavi), Beto Narvaez Pink Bourbon (Colombia Huila), Mustefa Abakeno and Sanson Garcia Luna Gesha. An espresso is on the list. Decaf: Decaf Peru Norandino Water Process. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

The roastery is open daily and serves drip, pour-over and cold coffee, but no espresso.

Bags are stocked on the islands too, at the Orcas Food Coop's Olga store and the San Juan Island Food Coop. In Seattle its coffee turns up at Imperfetta and Made in House in Fremont, Leschi Market, Raised Doughnuts, Current Coffee in West Seattle and Good Voyage in South Park. Shipping is free on every order, and bags come in 8 or 12 ounce sizes as whole bean, filter grind or French press grind.
