Dillanos Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Sumner, founded in 1992. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
David J. Morris started Dillanos in 1992 as an espresso cart outside the Sunshine Mart in Buckley, a convenience store run by his stepfather, Howard Heyer. The name comes from his oldest son, Dillon. Howard Heyer became his business partner, and the next year the pair opened two more retail spots. In 1994 David's brother Chris Heyer, then 19 and already an experienced cart barista, bought in as a third owner, and together they turned Dillanos into a wholesale roasting business.
They later sold the retail stands to focus on wholesale roasting from a new site in Sumner. The company grew from three people to more than 125 staff, supplies over 1,500 wholesale locations nationwide, and roasts for other well known specialty brands. Roast Magazine named Dillanos Roaster of the Year in 2011, and baristas it roasted for and coached went on to win the 2019 US Barista Championship and the 2022 US Coffee in Good Spirits title. In 2022 it bought Avalanche Distributing of Zillah in eastern Washington, and in November 2024 it announced a merger with Dancing Goats Coffee of Olympia, formerly Batdorf and Bronson, reviving the Batdorf and Bronson name.
Its motto is Help People, Make Friends, Have Fun, and Morris and Chris Heyer lead the company as co-CEOs.

House blends include Dillon's Blend, Howie's Blend, Hannah's Private Reserve, Skylar's, Metro, Midway, Rogue, Lucent, Ava Blonde, Double Dark, Special Dark, Moka Java, Unity (organic, Fair Trade) and Green Planet (organic, Fair Trade). Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia (organic, Fair Trade), Peru (organic, Fair Trade), Ethiopia Natural (organic, Fair Trade), Guatemala (organic, Fair Trade), Brazil Sul de Minas, Sumatra, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Nicaragua, Honey Central and Finca La Bolsa (limited).
