Lighthouse Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Washington: an independent roaster based in Seattle, founded in 1993. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Lighthouse has hand roasted small batch coffee since 1993 at the corner of 43rd and Phinney in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood, inside a craftsman building about 120 years old. Every coffee is roasted on a 1952 Gothot cast iron drum roaster, a hands-on machine the team prefers to automated equipment. The team is 15 people with long tenures; several have worked there 10, 15 or more than 25 years, adding up to over 250 years of combined roasting and barista experience.
Lighthouse says it does not chase trends. It spent years refining roast profiles aimed at a balance of body, flavor and acidity, and its coffees share a thread of dark chocolate, heavy body and toffee sweetness. It buys specialty grade 1 and 2 arabica from producers and cooperatives with deep roots and careful processing, from fruit forward East African coffees to chocolatey Latin American lots. It sells a Washington Wild blend tied to a cause, and its shop accepts donations for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Roast levels run medium and dark. House blends include Lighthouse Blend, Espresso Blend, Captain Bert's Breakfast Blend, Mocha-Java, French Roast, French Sumatra and Washington Wild Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Chelchele, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Supernatural Banko Gotiti, Kenya AA, Rwanda Dukunde Kawa Mbilima and Sumatra Kerinci Gunung Tujuh.
